A good character prompt has a known shape: a role, a personality with a contradiction in it, a background that drives decisions, a few lines that show how she talks, a format for replies. Every guide walks you through filling that in, and every guide is right. It is also forty minutes of work before the first message, and the result is a wall of text you then maintain by hand.
So the honest question is which of those parts need you, and which only need a first draft you can react to. On Talaforge the draft is written for you from a sentence or three — and everything after it stays yours to edit.
The one-sentence draft
In the bot, open Characters, press Create New Character and choose **With AI**. You describe the character in one to three sentences — who she is, where you meet her, what is off about her — and the helper answers with three things: a name, a persona, and an opening message. The persona is the long private part: personality, backstory, how she speaks, hooks for the scene. The opening message is what she says first. It answers in the language you wrote in, and it avoids explicit content.
You see the draft before anything is saved, with the persona and opening shortened for the preview. From there you can accept it, edit the name, the persona or the greeting separately, regenerate, edit all three as one block of text, or drop to writing it by hand. Nothing is committed until you accept, and you can stop a generation that is going the wrong way.
What the draft does not do: it does not choose a voice or draw her face. Those are separate steps right after — upload a picture or generate one if you have an image package, and give her a voice from a panel whenever you like. The draft is name, persona and opening, and that is all it claims to be.
What the draft already contains
Put the template from any guide next to a draft and you will find the same parts, because the helper is told to produce them:
- A personality and a backstory, written as a persona rather than a list of adjectives.
- A way of speaking — register, rhythm, what she avoids saying.
- Hooks for the scene, so the first conversation has somewhere to go.
- An opening message that works as the one worked example of her voice in the whole chat.
That last item matters more than it looks. The opening message is the only sample of her voice that exists at message one, which is why a draft that writes it as a scene beats a greeting that asks your name. You still get to rewrite it — but you are rewriting a scene, not staring at an empty box.
Where your style comes in
A draft from one sentence is generic on purpose: it is written from your words and nothing else. The place where your own habits enter is the next step. In My Profile, once you have made a character, there is **My creation style**: a free-form note about how you write characters — structure rules, tone, formatting conventions, themes to favour or avoid.
When you press **Improve with AI** on a character, that note is placed in front of the instructions, and the suggestions for the name, the description, the persona and the opening message follow it. Improve shows you a preview; a per-suggestion switch lets you force the style on or off for that one run, and you can edit the note from the same screen. A private character takes the change straight away; a public one goes through review like any edit.
To be exact about the order: the style shapes the polish, not the first draft. The first draft comes from your sentence. If you want your conventions in the very first pass, write them into the sentence.
Fixing a character that has drifted
When a character goes off script, the tempting fix is another instruction in the chat. It works once and costs every turn afterwards: the instruction stays in the conversation and the model starts imitating stage directions. The durable fix is in the card.
- Find the drift: she forgot a fact, she changed register, or she stopped pushing back.
- Change the source. Open the persona and add the missing contradiction, or rewrite the line that shows her voice. The private persona holds up to fifty thousand characters, so length is not the constraint.
- Correct the fact in the memory, which you can read, edit and delete fact by fact, not in the conversation.
- Start a new storyline and test it clean.
The public description and the private persona are different fields: the description is what people read while browsing, the persona is what she is asked to be on every reply, and only you can read it.
What it costs, and the limits
The draft is priced in energy ⚡ at the rate of the text model you have selected, so a cheap model gives a cheap draft. The bot checks your balance before it starts; if you are short, it offers a top-up or a free switch to writing by hand. The helper is limited to a handful of drafts per hour, and the same allowance covers Improve with AI, so regenerate with intent rather than eight times in a row.
Two honest limits. A draft is a strong first version, not a finished character: read it, cut the line that is wrong, add the thing only you know. And the web editor in the Mini App is a manual editor — it has the four fields (name, who she is, first words, her mind) but no AI drafting; the draft lives in the bot.
The ten-minute test
- Open @talaforge_bot, go to Characters, Create New Character, With AI.
- Describe someone in one sentence, with one thing that is off about her.
- Read the draft. Regenerate once if the voice is wrong; edit the persona by hand if it is almost right.
- Accept, add a picture, open the chat and send one line.
- Then open Improve with AI and compare the suggestion with your draft.
If you would have spent forty minutes on the template, you have a character to talk to and a clear idea of what to change. The bot opens in Telegram; there is nothing to install. The same card can later become its own Telegram bot, and the creator cabinet is where you watch how it does.
